what effects does stopping alcohol have on the body?

alcohol

A reduction, or even a momentary abstinence, can significantly reduce the effects of alcohol on our body.

Alcohol, especially when consumed in excess, is bad for your health. Cancers, cardiovascular disease, liver disease, depression…

are among the risks increased by this substance. However, a reduction, or even momentary abstinence, can significantly reduce them.

But other quickly visible and less well-known benefits also arise.

So if you quit alcohol during Dry January, you will find that your skin will look better and you will sleep better.

This is the case for 70% of people who have had the experience, according to the organization Alcohol Change UK which launched the challenge in the UK in 2013.

65% of them notice that they are in better health.

So much for the immediate and visible effects. And inside our body, a month of abstinence also has less visible benefits:

lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, reducing the risk of diabetes and reducing proteins associated with cancer risk in the blood.

But is a month enough? Does it make a difference? Well the answer is yes!

"Dry January helps people drink healthier the rest of the year," say the results of a study by the University of Sussex. So, six months after a January challenge

over 70% of participants continue to drink sensibly. In addition, they report feeling much better in general.

Letting your body live alcohol free for 31 days realizes that it is possible to have fun, relax and socialize without this help.

"This allows us to better manage our consumption for the rest of the year," says Alcohol Change UK.
