U.S. Sen. Rand Paul driving violent threats against me, Fauci says

WASHINGTON, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease officer in the United States, 

on Tuesday accused Republican Senator Rand Paul of spreading false information that threatened violence against him and his family, 

while distracting the public from fighting the Covand pandemic19.

At the Senate Medical Committee's hearing, Fauci last warmed up with Paul, a Kentucky lawmaker and supporter of former President Donald Trump.

 Fauci said Paul focused on uninformed attacks instead of management focusing on a health care crisis that has killed more than 800,000 people in the United States.

Pauls' website accused Fauci of "ignoring good advice and lying about everything from masks to infected viruses," and on Tuesday accused Senator Fauci of harming other scientists who disagreed with him.

Fauci says that Paul distorted the truth. "You have it again, you do the same thing at every hearing,"

 Fauci told the senator, who accused him of personal attacks unrelated to reality.

"He did it for political reasons," Fauci continued, pointing to a call for funds on Paul's website following a call to fire Fauci.

"It follows from what everyone here is trying to do right now (that is, our arms) to get to the epidemic and the pandemic we are facing is not a fantasy," 

Fauci said. Fauci faces sharp criticism from some conservatives and threats to kill people who oppose measures such as vaccinations and masks, which he advocates to stop the pandemic.

Fauci said that misinformation led to such threats.

"What happens when he (Paul) comes out and accuses me of things that are completely untrue is that suddenly those fools run away and I

 endanger my life, harm my family and my children." Be Fauci.

Fauci said to Dis. 21 men were arrested in Iowa traveling from California to Washington, DC, 

allegedly killing Fauci.

Paul accused Fauci of personal attacks on him and said that Fauci did not want violence.

Last month, Fauci called on Fox News presenter Jesse Watters to resign after Watters spoke of 

"killing" and criticizing doctors.
