COVID-19: ACCORDING TO EPIDEMIOLOGIST ARNAUD FONTANET, THE 5TH WAVE WILL REACH ITS "MID-JANUARY" Peak

COVID-19

In an interview with the new issue of the JDD posted online this Saturday evening, the epidemiologist, an executive of the Institut Pasteur

and member of the Scientific Council, Arnaud Fontanet, advances a horizon for the peak of the fifth wave of Covid-19 which crosses the country: mid-January.

Associate researcher at the Institut Pasteur where he heads the epidemiology research unit and member of the Scientific

Council, Arnaud Fontanet is one of the voices that the French have come to know since the start of the epidemic.

And in an interview granted in the JDD to be published on Sunday and posted online this Saturday evening, the specialist estimated

that France was approaching significantly the peak of the fifth wave of Covid-19. The pandemic should reach its maximum circulation in France within two weeks, he said.

"Significant regional variations"

"The peak in the number of cases should peak in mid-January," said the specialist in the columns of the JDD.

"The hospital peak could take place a week later," he said, suggesting the possibility of "significant regional variations". "Ile-de-France will be the first to be affected," he observed.

Based on British data, corroborating South African studies, Arnaud Fontanet has also said his certainty, now

that although much more contagious than its predecessor, the Omicron variant was indeed less dangerous than Delta. "It is a less virulent variant, with fewer severe forms of Covid-19", he certified.
